About us

Our Team

Gold Lantern Advisory was founded by three colleagues who believe that philanthropy works best when it is personal, grounded and honest. We bring different strengths — fundraising, grant-making, operations, strategy and research — but we share one conviction: that giving should be a source of clarity and joy, not confusion.

Director

Sarah Fox

Sarah believes that good fundraising starts with genuine belief in a cause.

Sarah's experience in fundraising for the voluntary sector began when she was a member of a youth group that was awarded a grant during the National Lottery's first funding round in 1994. In addition to volunteering for diverse causes, she's worked in fundraising roles for sight loss, health and disability-related causes, supporting work taking place in her local community, in other regions and in other countries.

Sarah has enhanced her fundraising practice by completing her M.A. at the Centre for Philanthropy at the University of Kent, enabling her to develop a 'pracademic' approach, enhanced by research and a wider theoretical understanding of philanthropy.

When not at work, Sarah enjoys reading and talking about books in her favourite independent coffee shop or, if weather permits, pottering in the garden. She's also a bit of a culture vulture, with a keen appetite for art shows and historic churches.

Portrait of Chris Tipton, Director at Gold Lantern Advisory

Director

Chris Tipton

Chris believes the best giving decisions come from truly knowing what you fund — not from a proposal on paper, but from careful due diligence, honest relationships, and time spent on the ground.

With 20 years of experience building Upset The Rhythm from the ground up, Chris has built a career on spotting overlooked potential early and nurturing it into lasting success. Several acts he championed, including Future Islands and Lankum, went on to fill some of the country's biggest venues. For the past four years, he's brought that same instinct to philanthropy as Operations Officer for the Hortons Social Purpose Committee, managing the full grant-making process across a broad portfolio spanning arts, heritage, hardship, social exclusion, crisis support, education, and rehabilitation. His work included sourcing charities, carrying out due diligence, and building the sincere relationships that let a committee fund with real confidence. He's also organised fundraising events for organisations including Amnesty International, Heart n Soul, and the Teenage Cancer Trust, giving him a firsthand feel for both sides of the funding relationship.

He holds an M.A. in Philanthropic Studies from the University of Kent and a First Class Honours degree in Biology from Imperial College London, but much of what he brings to the table comes from two decades of building something real through managing budgets, relationships, and outcomes against a deadline.

When he's not working, you'll find Chris exploring somewhere intriguing, out on a hilltop walk, or adding to his antiques collection with a good story behind it. He's married to Kimberly, and together they're kept busy by their two daughters, Tabitha and Tilda — the same curiosity and care that make him a devoted dad are exactly what he brings to every charity he assesses and every client he advises.

"The growing good of the world is partly dependent on unhistoric acts" — George Eliot, Middlemarch

Director

Tracey Peppler

Tracey believes that behind every great partnership, every successful campaign, and every pound donated, there's a relationship built on trust, and helping organisations build those relationships is what she loves most.

With 16 years of experience across the Global South and UK, Tracey has sat alongside CEOs, boards, and fundraising teams, turning big ambitions into funded, sustainable reality. She's helped drive a 260% revenue increase for one organisation over five years, secured hundreds of thousands of pounds in funding from corporates and foundations for others, and built relationships with partners ranging from global names like Investec and Hilton to grassroots community organisations, always with the belief that meaningful impact starts with genuinely understanding people.

She holds an MBA from the University of Cape Town and an M.A. in Philanthropic Studies from the University of Kent, but her real education has come from two decades in the room with donors, with communities, and with the leaders trying to bridge the two.

When she's not working, you'll find Tracey exploring somewhere new, baking, or getting to know someone better. She's been happily married to Lance for 16 years, and together they're kept joyfully busy by their two daughters, Jessica and Kirsten. It's the same curiosity and warmth that make her a wonderful mum that she brings to every client relationship.

"So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver." — 2 Corinthians 9 v 7 NKJV
